My passion for the natural world lead me to achieve an academic background in biological sciences, but the desire to express nature’s beauty on canvas inspired a change in direction to a life as an artist.
As is found in nature, diversity is the theme to my work. Pieces range from detailed realism of nature’s creatures to pieces of imaginative representation.
Acrylics allow me to achieve the effects that viewers rave about. However, I am not afraid to experiment with oils, watercolour pencils, soft pastels, oil pastels, handmade papers and polymer clay.
Colour is the main inspiration behind my jewellery, which often has a natural theme. Diversity also shows through with designs varying from simple single strand to intricate Victorian. Pieces consist of gemstones, glass beads and wire, but a few very unique creations are made with polymer clay and stained glass or with ceramic clay.
There is also a therapeutic element to painting and making jewellery. It stimulates my mind and I get a great satisfaction from designing and then creating something with tools manipulated by my own hands.
I hope, through my passionate creations, to bring awareness to society about respecting animals as companions and nature as the giver of life.
